BanditPosted by Lee (Fort Frances Ontario, Canada) on 15 March 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. The raccoon has always been known as a thief. It is quite dextrous. It is able to pick things up with its forepaws. They are very curious and nosy. Usually they are active at night. Quite often they upset garbage cans and explore the so called bounty found inside. They do like shiny attractive items. Between their curious personalities and the mask like appearance of their face, words like bandit and thief have been associated with raccoons. They have a keen sense of smell and a sweet tooth. This guy was only interested in checking things out. He caused no real damage. I do not think anything was stolen, or went missing. Fortunately he didn't find much that was appealing. I never saw him again. Thank you for visiting my site. I consider myself to be lucky living where I do. Everyday I wake up to a wealth of interesting visual scenarios. Most of my pictures are Wildlife and Nature taken from around the area. The area specifically being Fort Frances Ontario on beautiful Rainy Lake. Feel free to comment on what you see. I look forward to hearing from you. If you like what you see, please rate it. Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United StatesOur nightly visitors are usually opossums which our dog is obsessed with. Since they are also in our area, I worry that he will run into a raccoon some night and behave the same way he does towards the possums. If so, he's going to have a very rude awakening. 15 Mar 2009 5:40am @Suzanne: It will indeed be an awakening. They can be quite aggressive when threatened. Let's hope it never happens. jamesy from christchurch, New ZealandWhat a great shot It is such a cheeky little face 15 Mar 2009 5:41am @jamesy: Almost childish and mischievious. mats from Houston, United StatesThis innocent looking face couldn't be a thief... :-) 15 Mar 2009 6:29am @mats: Don't let them fool you. Capital T in thief. EYES WIDE SHUT from United KingdomNow that is a seriously fine portrait of this cute little guy. I was so excioted when a couple of years ago, I saw my first raccoon, up close and personal in a wood shed in Sidney, Vancouver Island. This guy is so cute and yet so serious!!! Great shot!!!! 15 Mar 2009 11:11am @Linerberry: They have split personalities. The serious hunter who just wants food. And the hap hazardly Inspector Clouseau who only investigates. @zOOm: Thank you @Veronica: Thank you. It was not nearly as co-operative as it looks. It had different ideas about what a portrait should look like. Hoshisato from Ealing, United KingdomThat devious "Who, me?" look is irresistible! 15 Mar 2009 12:49pm @Hoshisato: Thank you. Right down to the catch light in his eyes :) We have a family of raccoons living under our deck, but they are fairly shy. One evening my son went to take out the trash, (he's 18 & 6ft tall) and just as he got to the can a raccoon popped up out of the can! I wish I had been there to see both of their faces!! 15 Mar 2009 2:05pm @Tracy: I can only imagine the look of surprise combined with the instant fright they both could have. don from Spokane, United StatesNot only a fine close up of this bright-eyed guy, but you've characterized him very well.
