Death From AbovePosted by Lee (Fort Frances Ontario, Canada) on 18 April 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. This is a shot from last winter. Gyrfalcons migrate south from the arctic expanses to our neck of the woods. They seem to like the urban centres. Lots of fat pigeons. You always know when the gyrfalcons are hunting. The pigeons all cower together in a massive bunch on the hydro wires. When the predator comes close they fly in a thick flock. These pigeons were flying frantically. I did not manage to see a kill or strike. They disappeared out of range. The falcons usually show up around December if they're going to. They depart in late March or early April. Thank you for visiting my site. I consider myself to be lucky living where I do. Everyday I wake up to a wealth of interesting visual scenarios. Most of my pictures are Wildlife and Nature taken from around the area. The area specifically being Fort Frances Ontario on beautiful Rainy Lake. Feel free to comment on what you see. I look forward to hearing from you. If you like what you see, please rate it. Better yet, bookmark the site and drop back often. I will be posting daily.
