Seafood for Lunch

Posted by Lee (Fort Frances Ontario, Canada) on 6 May 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Well the ice is officially off Rainy Lake. WooooHoooo! Summer is just around the corner.
What is a porfolio with out a shot of the infamous loon. These birds are so at home in the water. They can dive to great depths for food.
They are extremely awkard on land. Their legs are very far back on their body, thus the inability to walk comfortably on land.
The call of a loon on a quiet calm summer night is a true welcomed sound of the north. I think everyone will agree with that.

Thank you for visiting my site. I consider myself to be lucky living where I do. Everyday I wake up to a wealth of interesting visual scenarios. Most of my pictures are Wildlife and Nature taken from around the area. The area specifically being Fort Frances Ontario on beautiful Rainy Lake. Feel free to comment on what you see. I look forward to hearing from you. If you like what you see, please rate it. Better yet, bookmark the site and drop back often. I will be posting daily.

Rémi Côté from Saguenay, Canada

Oh my god what a fabulous capture.

Loons are magnificient creatures. Their song are part of our world

I have seen a tv report about them few years ago. The reporter says finally: "...and if loons have never existed, never mens can imagine such a creature...."

...et si le huard n'avait jamais existé, jamais l'homme n'aurait pu imaginer qu'une telle créature puisse exister...

Excuse my bad English lol!

6 May 2009 8:54pm

@Rémi Côté: Thank you very much. There are very few other living things that can match the beauty of a loon's call on a quiet calm night, or early morning.

Vinman from Essex, United Kingdom

I come across loons every day, they regularly sit next to me on the train. Alas not the feathered kind!
