Common Tern

Posted by Lee (Fort Frances Ontario, Canada) on 25 May 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Yesterday was one of the better days I have lived in a while. The sun was out. It was a bright almost windless day. A few minor chores needed to be performed. My girlfriends sister and brother-in-law offered to take us out on the lake for a boat ride.
Could I say no.
We saw Pelicans, Cormorants, Eagles, Loons, and countless ducks.
We also found a small colony of Common Terns. Hey whoa, slow the boat. Everyone be quiet, sit still, idle closer, shut off the motor and drift. Shhhh. Hold the dog still. Shhhh.
They flew, I wasn't ready. Let's try it again. I saw them land over there.
After three or four attempts I managed to get some good shots. Another species for the album.
I have to thank Len & Betty Anne for offering to take me in the boat and putting up with my passion and drive to capture any and every fine feathered fowl I encounter.
It was a most enjoyable day. Very relaxing and rewarding.

Thank you for visiting my site. I consider myself to be lucky living where I do. Everyday I wake up to a wealth of interesting visual scenarios. Most of my pictures are Wildlife and Nature taken from around the area. The area specifically being Fort Frances Ontario on beautiful Rainy Lake. Feel free to comment on what you see. I look forward to hearing from you. If you like what you see, please rate it. Better yet, bookmark the site and drop back often. I will be posting daily.

You sure live the life! This photo, colors especially, is fantastic. I, however, went to a funeral this weekend and despite the sadness was able to travel to one of the most beautiful areas of central PA. I did not have my camera, therefore, MUST take a side trip up there soon so I can share this beauty, as you do yours, with the rest of the world!

25 May 2009 1:33pm

@Denise: I'm sorry your weekend was not as enjoyable as mine. I am however pleased to hear you found some beauty to share with the rest of the world. Thank you for the compliment.
